I have a request from the person or people that do the SVG files for the PPCA.

Can we have the image below made?  I like the dark background, but the all white makes it boring (for me).  I like the mixture of red and white.  I've created a PNG file that I can use, but I'd like the SVG for printing.

Thanks,
Craig

Example of what I would like (in high res).

I took a little extra time and played with the one with the transparent background and came up with this.  I have the SVG file of it saved as well, in case anyone is interested. Scratch that, I cannot export a SVG file, just open them.  Cry

That being said, are there master files that are available to us?

PNG Sample, high res.

No. We're still in the process of putting together our style guide, but that will definitely not be in it. No offence, but it looks terrible.

If you're opening the files in Illustrator, SVG is under Save As rather than Export.

The plain white on black (and its reverse), are meant more for use in older style newspapers and publications still dealing with 2-colour (b&w) printing and placement methods. It makes it clearer and easier for the paper to print, and doesn't require them to do extra work to make a logo printable. As boring as it is, it's a requirement for an older placement and printing style that a lot of smaller and independant papers still require.

The standard (grey, red & white) logo at the top of the page is meant for the usual web work, full colour printing, etc.

Yeah, I'm not on a style committee or anything like that, but I've had to get things printed in a few newspapers and had to go through this with them too. It's the rational for it, and the reason why all major political parties have a version of their logo in the 2-tone b&W. It's clearer and easier to print from a B&W version than it is to convert it (which creates grey areas and obscures portions)

Indeed. We do also have a version in full black and full red on white, but they're not on the wiki. Whether or not the red version makes it into the style guide remains to be seen.

Very important.

If you don't have Illustrator, Inkscape works great for vector graphics http://inkscape.org/download/ (and it's free!)

Last time I tried Illustrator it used a ridiculous amount RAM, took forever to load and installed a bunch of unnecessary Adobe crap!

You need to edit SVGs with a vector software, otherwise you are just importing the SVG which turns it into a bitmap.

I found Inkscape too confusing last time I tried it, which was admittedly a few years ago.

Sounds about right.
